Baked Stuffed Apples

Tyler’s favorite pie is cherry pie, so we decided to whip up a delicious mixture of cherries, pecans, and spices to fill up these succulent Granny Smith apples. Make sure to choose apples that are big enough to be hollowed out and still hold enough filling to satisfy your hungry family.

To help reduce the tearing of the skin while baking, peel the rim of the apples after you take the top off. Tears in the skin won’t affect the taste of these apples, but if you want these treats to look as pretty as they taste, you have to try your darndest to maintain the integrity of the orb!

Pro Tip

You can use any kind of apple to make this scrumptious dessert. However, Granny Smith apples are one of the best apple varieties to use while baking. The tartness of this variety adds a nice zing sure to satisfy even the pickiest sweet tooth!

Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Prepare a baking dish by either greasing it or covering it in foil for easy cleanup.
  3. Finely chop pecans and cut cherries into eighths (or very little pieces).
  4. In a small bowl, mix pecans, cherries, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Using a knife and spoon or corer, remove the core of the apple. Stop just before the bottom of the apple to keep it stable. We recommend leaving the apple walls about 1/2 an inch thick.
  6. Use a peeler or knife to peel off the very top of the apple, so there's a flat top.
  7. Spoon mixture into the apples.
  8. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, or until the skin starts to shrivel. Serve warm.
